UNFORGETTABLE RIDE IN TRADITIONAL TAXI GETS PERFORMER GREGG LAWLESS UBER-EXCITED
Singer/songwriter Gregg Lawless has been uber-successful selling out his performances at Toronto roots music venue Hugh's Room -- twelve times. But he's not sure if he will be travelling to his Saturday, February 27th performance at Hugh's Room in an Uber car or a traditional cab.
One thing that Lawless' fans can count on is that he will be performing his catchy song "Taxi Driver" at the show - a song inspired by a tariff-free ride that a cabbie offered to get him to a gig after the songwriter missed the last bus out of town.
"It was quite the ride," says Lawless. "We got into an accident and I missed my bus out of town - but the cabbie told me to buy a bus ticket anyway. He chased the bus out of town, caught up to it, forced it to stop on the highway, and I boarded with my ticket ... and got to my gig on time. A week later, I wrote a song for the cabbie, John Laviolette, who wouldn't accept money when I tracked him down to pay him for the ride."
Joining Lawless at Hugh's Room will be drummer and 2016 JUNO nominee Mark Kelso (Jazz Exiles), bassist Fergus Marsh (Bruce Cockburn), pianist John Sheard (CBC Vinyl Cafe Orchestra) and guest vocalists Peter Katz, Laura Spinks (The Young Novelists) and Kirsten Jones.
